How Susie Supports You

  • *I can point you to evidence-based natural things you can do to support and enhance your health and prepare you for labor.

*I lean on God’s natural laws of physics and physiology, using movement and positioning to enhance and support your labor.

*I offer childbirth classes to prepare and equip you.

*Throughout your pregnancy I can teach you to make your own natural products, give you recipes, and equip you with other parenting and life skills if you are interested.

*I can utilize massage, counterpressure, nutrition, tools (such as the peanut ball, rebozo, or bath), breathing, hot or cold packs, and relaxation techniques to maximize your comfort and to empower you through the toughest part of labor.

*I can train your support people with ideas, tricks, and tips to help them play a vital and necessary role in your support and the birth of your baby.

*I can help you work toward a VBAC. If a cesarean is necessary, I can help you to achieve the most gentle, natural, redemptive cesarean possible.

*If a medical intervention is desired or becomes necessary, I can help you to mitigate the risks and benefits by highlighting the power of your God-given physiology in your and your baby’s well-being.

*I can take photos - fully owned by you - if you desire.

*I can kindly guard the door from unwanted intrusions or guests.

*I can help you with breastfeeding. (I spent over 15 years of my life breastfeeding babies!) Even if past attempts have not been successful or if interventions make it seem impossible, I can help you if you desire to breastfeed your baby.

*At a homebirth, I can help with light chores, preparing food and drink, and cleaning up after your birth.

  • *I celebrate the God-given gift of pregnancy and childbirth, keeping Him at the center of your story, praying over you and your baby, and helping you to lean on Him as the sole Champion of your life.

*I’m always just a text away.

*I can be a ‘safe space.’ No question is stupid. No fear is silly. You are free to ask me anything or tell me anything that will help you feel confident and safe.

*As a trauma-informed doula, I can help you navigate through past trauma or previous birth or medical trauma that may be impacting you and your pregnancy. I believe in the power of God to bring healing and redemption to the deep hurts and trauma of the past. I am a safe place to pour out your sorrow and hurt. We can pray together if you like and invite God to reframe, restore, and redeem your hurt.

*I can stay with you when you go into labor and throughout your labor and delivery, quietly and gently, safeguarding in the background (this is YOUR moment, not mine), watching over you, supporting you, helping you as needed.

*I can help you set up and maintain a peaceful birth space, including worship music, lighting, scripture, or anything else YOU desire.

*I remind you that you are in control at all times with the power to say no, to be heard, to decline, or to request at any time, and to change your mind if you want.

*I can teach you your 16 Legal Rights as a woman giving birth, help you to advocate for yourself, point out when a doctor is required to get your informed consent, and help you to understand risks, benefits, and alternatives to interventions being recommended.

*I can help you to remain confident and strong, kind and peaceful, even when advocating for yourself.

*If disappointments or unexpected outcomes occur, I can help lessen the impact of hard things through emotional, physical, and spiritual support, and through education and advocacy.

*I will pray for you throughout your pregnancy, and will pray for you and over you during your labor and delivery. As a daughter of God, I will stand alongside you in inviting God to be the center of your birth story.

*I can help you debrief after birth – the good and the bad – to find peace, purpose, and joy in your sacred birth story. Your story IS sacred.

*As a mom of 9 and grandma of 29, I have successfully raised all 9 of my kids and am in continued friendship and fellowship with them. I have decades of lived experience and wisdom, and by God’s grace can serve as a ‘godly older woman’ to you as encouraged in Titus 2.

I am so glad you are here!

Whether you’re a first-time mom looking for wisdom and understanding, or a veteran mom who needs healing or hope for future birth, I’m here for you.

The world of pregnancy and childbirth has become increasingly regulated, controlled, and politicized - even while it’s dressed up in million-dollar birth suites with designer birthing gowns and birth balls.

But institutionalized birth often strips women of their autonomy and personhood, and raises future and permanent health risks and damage for both mothers and babies. A whopping 45-70% of all childbearing women report experiencing birth trauma in the united states and 1/3 of all women end up having a cesarean.

God designed birth to be redemptive and good - and I believe that He desires every woman to experience His goodness and redemptive purposes through pregnancy and childbearing. (1 Timothy 2:15)
